UK invasion....

As mentioned in our last newsletter Spats Langham (guitar/banjo/vocals), Malcolm Sked (bass) and Martin Litton (piano) will be visiting our shores during November 2009. Their tour schedule is now (almost) finalised and can be viewed by clicking here.

As well as top billing at the Wangaratta JF, the group will be appearing around the country from Tassie to the Gold Coast. Their only feature Melbourne concert will be on Friday November 6th at The Abbotsford Convent - see more below.

The Abbotsford Convent featuring Furniss, Litton & Langham

The Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne has an extraordinary history. It's no longer used as a convent, but it once housed over 100 nuns and more than a thousand girls. On Friday 6th November, the convent will host a special one-off jazz concert featuring the cream of local and international talent.

UK virtuosos Martin Litton (Piano) and Thomas 'Spats' Langham (banjo/guitar/vocals) will be joined by the fantastic Sydney reedsman Paul Furniss. Local musicians Ian Smith on drums and Mark Elton on double bass will round out what is sure to be a memorable evening. Tickets are on sale now from www.jasondownes.com/convent

A Night at The Cotton Club

Are you a lover of great hot jazz? Do you love to dance? Do you love to watch great dancers? If you've said yes to any of these questions, then this concert is for you.

Tickets are on sale now from www.jasondownes.com/cotton
This will be an amazing night not to be missed...We are limiting this event to 300 people so if you're interested, get in quick!

Musician Profile - Liam O'Connell

Since making the move down the Hume Hwy from Canberra in 2001, Liam O'Connell has become one of Melbourne's most respected musicians. Liam has recently recorded a new album and will be having an official launch party and gig at the Lomond Hotel: Corner Blythe and Nicholson street, East Brunswick - 8pm Thursday 5th November. Get along for what should be a great night.
When commenting on the album, Liam says "I recorded it with musicians I play with regularly in the Jazz world, like Mike McQuaid, Andy and Peter Baylor, Ian Smith, Mark Elton, Leigh Barker and Leon Heale. Alanna Egan features on harmonies from Alanna's Hatties. The LP also ventures in such styles as calypso, gypsy swing, country waltzes and Spanish-Arabic bolero." This quote is taken from Liam's MySpace site. Please visit this site for more about Liam and to listen to a selection of his tunes....oh, and don't forget to get along to his CD launch!
