Mark Elton - Bass, Tuba and Vocals

Mark moved to Melbourne from country Victoria in 1994 and has been in-demand as a Double-Bass and Tuba player ever since.

A highly regarded musician in the Melbourne music scene, Mark has established himself as one of Australia’s leading Double Bassists. He plays regularly with The Hoodangers, Flap!, The Snappers, The Band Who Knew Too Much as well as working as a freelance musician with various jazz, gypsy and funk groups. In addition to his bass playing, Mark is a sought-after Tuba player and vocalist.

Mark began working professionally in Melbourne in 1995 with Hotter Than Six, an 8 piece jazz group. He’s toured throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia and Japan. In 2000 Mark joined New Orleans Jazz/Funk outfit The Hoodangers, highly regarded and well-established on the world jazz stage. They’ve played festivals and gigs in New Zealand, Fiji, India and has had three return tours to Europe and Scandinavia. .
In addition to Mark’s prolific jazz career, he has worked along side actor Max Gillies as a part of the Melbourne Theatre Company’s 2009 production of The Man from Mukinupin. Mark has performed live, on radio & television and recorded with artists as diverse as C.W. Stoneking, Joe Camilleri, John Butler Trio, The Red Eyes, Nina Ferro, Julie O’Hara, Bob Barnard, James Morrison, Tom Baker, Dan Barrett, Rebecca Kilgore, Eddie Erickson, Randy Reinhardt, Scott Robinson, Abe Most, Leroy Jones, Jon Erik Kelso, The Blue Grassy Knoll, and The Syncopators.
